Restaurierung eines MAN 4S2

New year new project.

My father bought a MAN 4S2 last year.
It is fitted with a 6-cylinder MAN engine and we hope to find a 4-cylinder M-engine to make it more original again. If you no a 4-cylinder for sale contact us! The 6-cylinder engine is in good condition, running wel and starting with only the help of a good battery after standing still for more than 1 year. We want to trade or sell the 6-cylinder but first we want to find a 4-cylinder because we don't want to stay empty handed at the end.

How do we find the year the tractor is build?

to the subject build year:  Don't you have the papers or the identification plate at the tractor, you simply have to search for castingdates...

We bought the tractor in Holland, they don't need papers on an agricultural vehicle! ID-plate is missing!

Tomorrow we are going to see for a 4-cylinder engine. In the meanwhile we discoverd the 4s2 has a slow G-getriebe. Is it possible to change it in to a faster S-getriebe? And where can we find the gears to change it?

you've just told us about a slow G-transmission and a faster S...  I know the ZF 20/18II only with the letters A or B !?  Are we talking about the very rare 20/28 ??

The getriebe has a number inscribed at the back, the number starts with an S or a G!
Where can we find new fenders  (kotflűgel)?

We are also looking for a ersatzteileliste and a workingmanual for the 4S2!

Ps, we did not bought the engine last sunday and hoop to find a better one.

I've just checked my 1958 faster 4S2, he has actually the letter B ahead of the transmission number.  Would you mind upload a picture from the back of your tractor, please?  Such informations have my greatest interest!

On the 4R2 I can't find a number, the tractor runs with standard engine RPM 30km/h and we didn't change any gears!

We are still looking for a ersatzteileliste and a workingmanual for the 4S2!

Hello Joos,

thank you for the picture!  That's no transmission number but probably the chassis number which always start with 5 or 9 at the 4S2.  You should rather search for the transmission number at the right side of the housing...  The identical chassis number (960479?) shall also be inscribed at the front bolster, when the MAN in the original condition is.

Spare parts catalog and working manual as copy, should you be able to get by Peter Streiber...

Obviously has your 4S2 no ZF 20/28 transmission...  According to the spare parts catalog are as well as ID-letter and serial number to be indicated at the right side at the back of the transmission housing:

Hello again,

Our 4S2 project is still in progress. Although slow, but that's better than standing still.

The 4-cylinder engine is completely overhauled, from crankshaft to dieselfuelpump.
The front axle is checked and made free from tolerance.

Now we wait for the "schnellgang"-gears of the gearbox to rebuild it so it runs 30km/h.

Today we received the iron plates for the new rear fenders.

bei Dir sieht es genauso scheiße aus wie es bei meinem Motor war, der wurde auch komplett gemacht und wieder zusammen gebaut,so wie Deiner.

Jetzt kannst du wieder alles abbauen und den Motor säubern und entlaken um ihn später zu lackieren, da man in diesem Zustand nirgends hin kommt.
